JACKSONVILLE - With just 14 seconds on the game clock, Oakleaf High quarterback Jack Mckissock found wide receiver Trace Burney in the back of the end zone for the gamewinning touchdown in a thrilling 45-41 win for the Knights while, at Middleburg, in a huge district clash between the two top teams in the district, Middleburg got a block PAT kick to win on overtime 37-36 win.
Around the county, in equal exciting fashion, Clay won their own overtime match with a 37-36 overtime match against Fernandina Beach to get a second win for first year coach Jeff Gierke.
At Fleming Island, the Golden Eagles revved up their offense with a 55-20 win over Andrew Jackson as coach Tom Macpherson looks to next week's game against Beachside as pivotal to a possible Middleburg vs. Fleming Island district championship game.
Keystone Heights and Ridgeview took losses on the chin with the Indians losing 42-7 to Chiefland and Impact Christian scoring a 56-20 win over the Ridgeview.
Oakleaf has running back Fareed "Buck" Coleman run for nearly 300 yards with five touchdowns in a contest of will power as ED White, the same 6-1 prior to the game as Oakleaf, was not intending on making the game easy.
Oakleaf got away with back to back long scores by ED White in the first half; a pick six and a long scrimmage run, as both were flagged for penalties.
Oakleaf coach Chris Foy liked that game as the "test" game for next week's district title clash with Mandarin.
Middleburg, now 7-1, will travel to Fleming Island in that final district matchup.
Orange Park traveled to Ponte Vedra in another district 3-5A matchup, but lost 53-0.
