Brenda Ruth (Herbert) Coon, 70, of Green Cove Springs, passed from this life on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at her home following an extended illness.

She was born at Glendale Hospital in Palatka, FL, on December 1, 1952, to Franklin D. “Don” (Sr.) and Ruth A. Herbert. The family included her two younger brothers, Franklin (Jr.) and Walt Herbert.

Brenda graduated from Watkins Private School, Green Cove Springs, FL, in 1969.

On May 5, 1972 Brenda and Jack Coon were married. They shared their lives together in Green Cove Springs expanding their family with two sons: Thomas A. “Andy” and William R. “Randy” Coon. Family was a priority for Brenda and Jack.

Brenda loved going to concerts, working in her yard, and going fishing. She was also eager to race go carts and ride (race) 3-wheelers. No matter what she was doing, she always looked her very best!

She also was an active member of their church, teaching Sunday school and being the church’s secretary/treasurer.

Brenda had a long and successful career, retiring from Clay County Clerks Office. Brenda also worked part time for Challenge Enterprises as a caregiver for disabled adults. In addition, Brenda served as the treasurer for Clay County Cattlemen Association.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jack of Green Cove Springs, FL and her eldest son Thomas “Andy” (Mimsi) Coon of Florala, AL, brothers: Franklin Jr. (MaryKay) and Walt (Melissa), grandchildren: Brienna Paige Coon (Marcus Latham), Kier Constantino and Antonio “Toni” Constantino along with 4 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Gene (Joyce), sisters-in-law Martha Rebecca (Al) Spain, Delores (Ron) Chipman and many nieces and nephews.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents: Franklin D. “Don” (Sr.) and Ruth A. (Brown) Herbert, and her son, William R. “Randy” Coon, brother- and sister-in-law Jerry and Diane Coon, and brother-in-law William T. “Tom” Coon, father- and mother-in-law Zack and Alena Coon.

Services celebrating Brenda’s life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Ricky Bybee officiating. Burial will follow at DeCoy Cemetery in Clay County. No public visitation is scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any donation to Alzheimer’s Research would be appreciated.
