'Burg rolls to 28-0 over Raiders

ORANGE PARK - Middleburg High Bronco football fans have enjoyed a series of six high scoring wins to start the 2025 season.

And it is the defense that has stealthily produced results on the other side of the ball with their first shutout for the season after a 28-0 district win over host Orange Park High last Friday.

The win puts Middleburg at 6-0 as they enter a gauntlet of district games in a district that, last year, sent four of the five teams into the region playoffs.

Middleburg’s dynamic running back duo—seniors Gino Addison and Travis Pinkard—were the stars of the night, combining for 272 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries. Their consistent effort and bruising ground game powered the Broncos to the sixth straight win of the season.

“[Running the ball] is always an emphasis for us. That’s Middleburg football. We’re going to run the ball and play great defense,” said Broncos Head Coach Ryan Wolfe. “I couldn’t be prouder of our staff and our players for putting in the work.”

Middleburg's defense—led by Gabe Baker on the line with the Swilley brothers, Dominic and Darius, plus the double tackle machines of Kadin Hanifen and Mason Peevy—have given up just 73 points in six games. The highest point total against the Bronco defense was in a 28-27 win over Clay.

Against Orange Park, despite a scoreless first quarter, the game quickly turned in Middleburg’s favor.

“We looked back at the film, and we just have to correct our mistakes,” said Orange Park Head Coach Marcus Wimberly before the game. “If everybody does their job, we’ll be fine.”

The final score didn’t tell the full story. On Middleburg’s second possession of the game, Orange Park junior defensive back Julian Still intercepted a pass, but the Raiders fumbled during the return, giving the ball right back to the Broncos.

Middleburg capitalized with their first touchdown in the second quarter, followed by a surprise pooch kick that they recovered, setting up their second score.
In the third quarter, down 14-0, Still intercepted another pass and returned it to the Middleburg 44-yard line. The Raiders were held to a 32-yard field goal attempt by senior Brock Affleje, who hesitated after a bobbled snap, resulting in a missed kick wide left.

Later in the quarter, the Raiders drove to the 4-yard line but fumbled again on a botched snap, which Middleburg recovered. The Broncos then marched 96 yards down the field, capping the drive with a nine-yard touchdown run by Addison.
After halftime, Middleburg never looked back.

The Broncos rushed 21 times in the second half for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Their ground-and-pound style proved unstoppable, with scores from Addison and sophomore Braydon Ventura. Middleburg attempted just one pass in the second half, relying almost entirely on their dominant rushing attack.

Middleburg, after a BYE week, will host the Ponte Vedra Sharks (4-2) in a 5A District 3 matchup on October 10—their second district game of the season and second consecutive week facing a district opponent. Orange Park will aim to clean up their mistakes as they take on the Westside High School Wolverines (0-5), hoping to climb back to a .500 record.
