Carroll, Jackson win titles; Waidner,May tie

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Middleburg High junior Cody Carroll scorched the Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club course with a two-under par 70 to win the district 5-2A title while leading the Broncos to a second place team finish to Bishop Kenny. Ridgeview High, led by Nick Frascello’s 78, finished third with Orange Park’s Owen Bryie qualifying with an 86 to advance to the regions.

Middleburg High’s girls team won in district 5-2A with sophomore Victoria Greene scoring the second best result of the day with an 89. Bishop Kenny sophomore Lacey Tucker scored an 83 to win the individual title. Middleburg won with 407 points with Bishop Kenny scoring 431.

Led by eighth grader Camille Jackson’s overall title in the girls district 6-1A tournament, the Keystone Heights High School girls golf team advanced to their region 2-1A tournament with an overall team title as well. The tournament was held October 10 at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the University of Florida campus.

Jackson, who won the same title in 2015, shot an impressive 82 score on the par 72 course to lead all golfers with teammate Savannah Heinz scoring a 91 to place second on the team.

For the Keystone Heights boys team, seniors Nolan Julius and Spencer Martin both scored 85s to position the Indians as the runnerup with 360 points. P.K. Yonge won with 334 points. Also for the boys, Wyatt Thomas scored a 92 and Tyler Thomas scored a 98.

Finishing out the scoring for the Keystone Heights girls were Sloane Siebert with a 93 and Ashton Ludwig with a 125.

In district 2-3A, Fleming Island High’s senior duo of Lauren Waidner and Sarah May battled to a 69 score tie to lead the Golden Eagles to a second place finish to Buchholz High School.

For the boys district 3-2A, Fleming Island finished second to Ocala Forest with senior Drew Neilen scoring a 73 to lead the Golden Eagles to a second place team finish. In district 4-1A, St. Johns Country Day School earned three individual qualifiers to their region with Jack Richardson, Henry Dinkins and Dru Detlefsen all advancing behind a team win by Bolles.

For the girls district 4-1A, Sofia Pecoraro advanced with Bolles winning the team title.
