KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Keystone Heights High girls basketball coach Jessica Sykes=Carter may have one more rabbit in her hat as the district basketball tournaments ramp up and her Lady Indians look to make some waves in district 5-4A where Carter is sitting atop with a 16-8 record with Suwannee High the lone challenger with a winning record at 8-7.
Sykes-Carter, a state champion player in her own right, knows the up tempo feeling of championship ball and has pulled out some big upsets in her tenure as coach. Should that gut instinct morph into her players should make the Keystone Heights run exciting in Sykes-Carter final district tournament.
With North Marion already beating Eastside 53-29 in quarterfinal action, Keystone Heights will have North Marion in a number one vs. number four semifinal on Wed., Feb. 1.
Suwannee comes on the opposite end with an opener against Santa Fe and a semifinal with Palatka waiting. Palatka recently got roughed up by Bishop Kenny 65-13 and may be a bit testy for their tournament as they took Keystone Heights to a 47-41 loss in regular season play.
Keystone Heights revolves around sharpshooter Kiley Channell and inside bruiser Dezaray Bright; two seniors that are the team leaders with junior Yasmine Bryant adding points.
