ASBURY – According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old man was
arrested on Dec. 3 for being drunk while hunting on private property.
Robert Francis Ayers, of Middleburg, was charged with using a firearm while intoxicated, possession of a firearm and ammo by a convicted felon and armed trespassing after he emerged from the woods on land owned by the Reinhold Corporation near Shadowlawn Elementary.
Ayers complied with the deputy’s order to put his rifle on the ground. Deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol and asked him to submit to a blood alcohol test. It measured at .193 – more than twice the legal limit to drive a vehicle.
His bond is $77,508.
