MIDDLEBURG – Three Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies and K-9 Koda stopped a man while he was trying to drive away in what they believed was a stolen BMW on April 7 after getting a 911 call from a business owner on County Road 220.
Demetrius Wayne McFadden, 23, who’s listed as homeless from Homestead, was charged with burglary with damage of more than $1,000 to Worldwide Automotive, grand theft auto, two counts of felony criminal mischief of more than $1,000, providing a false name to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement without violence after he tried to drive through a chain-linked gate at the rear of the business as deputies approached.
The car became entangled in the fence. As deputies slowly approached, McFadden tried unsuccessfully to rev the engine to break free. They eventually smashed the window, pulled McFadden from the car and placed him under arrest.
His bond was set at $145,016.
