FLEMING ISLAND - Quick review of Thursday night action, plenty of it in the area with baseball finals at Clay High, Ridgeview High, St. Johns Country Day School and Keystone Heights with a flag footbal final at Clay High and track districts ramping up this weekend.
At Clay High, the Blue Devils will host Baker County in baseball for the district 3-4A championships at 7 p.m. Clay is 17-9 with losses to the likes of powerhouses like Tampa Jesuit, IMG Academy, St. Johns Country Day School and most recently, Bishop Snyder.
Clay is ranked 45th in Florida and fifth in Class 4A with a 14.1 strength of schedule relative to a 21.9 for Jesuit, 16.1 to American Heritage and 16.4 to Arnold High; the top three teams in Class 4A.
Baker County, 10-14, and with an early season 8-1 loss to Clay, has a two game win streak entering the game; a 14-13 win over Santa Fe and a 10-0 win over ED White in the district semifinal. Prior to those two wins, Baker County had five losses.
For St. Johns Country Day School, 18-8, their matchup with St. Joseph Academy, 19-6-1, is a classic of top teams in Class 1A that should provide a solid game.
St. Johns Country Day School, the defending Class 2A champion, is ranked No. 1 in Class 1A with St. Joseph Academy at number five. St. Johns has a strong 15.1 strength of schedule rating while St. Joseph is at 7.6 with wins over Oakleaf (2-0) and University Christian (7-3) prior to the final.
At Ridgeview, coach Saul Jimenez got a surprise maybe 9-5 win over Middleburg in the district 3-5A semifinal with a six run third inning to bring a 9-13 record into the dugout against a Columbia team that just got past Fleming Island, 1-0 in seventh inning walkoff, and could be vulnerable to a second Panther upset.
Columbia, 14-10, sports a 17.7 strength of schedule, a fifth in 5A ranking and an 11-3 win over St.Johns Country Day School to come in as a pretty strong team that, in the past three games, has had some issues with a 5-2 loss to West Nassau, an 11-0 loss to IMG Academy Black and the 1-0 win over Fleming Island.

Keystone Heights, in district 4-2A, blasted Interlachen 13-6 to get to that final against Trinity Catholic (10-16).

Note: Region playoff games will be a best of three series with district champions or higher seed hosting the first two games and then higher seed in region semi and region final.
In flag football, Clay and Ridgeview racked up big numbers in their semifinal wins; 46-6 over North Marion for the Panthers and 33-0 for the Blue Devils to set up what could be a dinger of a final at Clay High School. Clay did beat Ridgeview 21-0 in regular season play, but Ridgeview put wide receiver Emma Rayes at quarterback and the team got their best game point total in that 46-6 win.
For track, St. Johns Country Day School traveled to Father Lopez on Wednesday and came home with some district titles; Kaitlyn Sunderhaus 800, 1-2-3 in 1600 led by Rebecca Stratton, 2-3-4 in 3200 led by Kate Staten, 3-4-5 in 100 hurdles led by Eleanor Myers, first in 4 x 100 and 4 x 800, Isa Johnson first in high jump for girls.
For boys, St. Johns had first from Wyatt Hollingsworth in 800 with a 1-2-3 finish; Arlo Kistner in 1600 with a 1-2-3-4 finish, Arlo Kistner in 3200 with 1-2-3 finish and first in 4 x 400 relay.
Oakleaf has their district track at Sandalwood on Saturday led by Devin Collins in 100 and long jump while Class 3A; MHS, FIHS, RHS, OPHS is at Orange Park High on Tuesday, April 22.
Middleburg has discus thrower Madison Underwood as a favorite and sprinter Mike Wesley; Fleming Island has a deep distance crew for girls and boys; Jacob Campbell, Cole Atzert, Andrew Boyer, Brooke Reynolds, Ava Hendryx, plus triple jumper Mikayla Shavers as favorites.
Orange Park has sprinter jumper Nethan Verger plus Carlder Datilus in 400 hurdles and jumps plus Kayleana Henry in 400 or 800.
Look for Ridgeview sprinter Oja Riggs and jumper Ann-Gellica Taravine plus hurdler Adan Benda with 800 Braidyn Matz a sub-2:00 finisher.
