CLAY COUNTY – Clay Eye Physicians & Surgeons is among the first in North Florida to offer a new treatment option designed to help prevent vision loss from dry macular degeneration.

Clay Eye Physicians & Surgeons continues to advance ophthalmic care with the addition of the recently FDA-approved Valeda Red Light Delivery System. This innovative treatment is the world’s first light therapy for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT). With the addition of Valeda Red Light Therapy, Clay Eye further reinforces their commitment to providing patients with the latest, most advanced technology designed to help preserve and protect their vision.

“Treatments like Valeda Light Therapy represent an exciting advancement in caring for patients with Dry AMD, giving us the opportunity to help preserve vision earlier in the disease process and potentially reduce future vision loss,” said Dante Sorrentino, MD.

Dry age-related macular degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss in adults age 65 and older. The disease gradually damages the macula – the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. As central vision declines, everyday activities such as recognizing faces, driving, cooking, reading and completing everyday tasks are difficult. Symptoms of dry AMD are often mild in the early stages, and some patients may not notice any changes in their vision for several years.

Clay Eye Physicians and Surgeons offers comprehensive eye care in the following specialties: cornea and glaucoma surgeries, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration, laser cataract surgery, medical/surgical retina, and LASIK surgery and cosmetic eye procedures. In addition, they offer routine eye exams, contact lenses and boutique eyewear for the entire family.
