College offers CPR training
throughout summer
Some occupations and roles require CPR, including those in healthcare, childcare and emergency response, as well as those working with vulnerable populations or in high-risk environments.
St. Johns River State College will offer American Heart Association CPR/BLS/AED training this summer. Apply online at sjrstate.coursestorm.com for $75.

St. Augustine Campus on July 10 from 5-9 p.m. (room C0105)
Palatka Campus on July 24 from 5-9 p.m. (room B0031)
The course is for individuals seeking certification in CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS). Students will receive up-to-date training and instruction in the areas of basic CPR administration; choke relief; proper Automated External Defibrillator (AED) operation; and the role of each in the chain of survival. After completing this course, students will receive a certification card.

national acclaim from NUSA
JACKSONVILLE – The Neighborhoods USA selected the Magnolia News as its second-place winner of the national Electronic Format Newsletters Not-For-Profit Organization at its recent national conference.
Neighborhoods had the opportunity to enter their community projects and newsletters, which were judged by a panel of judges.
According to NUSA, Neighborhood and Community newsletters are an effective communication tool to share news about your city, community and neighborhood. A well-designed newsletter can spark an interest in neighborhood involvement, increase neighborhood association membership and spur volunteerism.
Clamour offers coaching, auditioning

FLEMING ISLAND – Clamour Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Elaine Smith will coach actors on audition material as well as provide performance and business tips on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Fleming Island United Methodist Church, 7170 U.S. Highway 17.
Class is also open and free to those who wish to observe rather than be coached. Reservations (clamourtheatre.org/classes) are required for both actors and observers.

Bounce Land Family Fun

Bounce Land Family Fun takes place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 12-15 at the Clay County Fairgrounds. The event includes a $500 drawing each day; local food vendors; a dozen giant inflatables, live entertainment, music and interactive games.
SJR State’s Arredondo earns
DII Softball Play of Year honors
PALATKA – St. Johns River State College softball catcher/infield Princess Arredondo has earned her biggest post-season award to date – the DII Softball Player of the Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The sophomore from South Sumter High School (Bushnell) is the first SJR State athlete to receive the national status.
Head softball coach Joe Pound said, “She is a professional hitter. Her bat-to-ball skills, combined with the power aspect of her game, make her a special player.”
SJR State President Joe Pickens said Arredondo is the epitome of a student-athlete. “She is a leader both on the field and in the classroom,” Pickens said.
Arredondo graduates from SJR State with an associate in arts degree and 3.52 GPA. This fall, she will go to James Madison University in Virginia, where she will play for the Dukes and major in business.
OP Community Sports Day

The 2nd annual Orange Park Community Sports Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, at OP Athletic Association located at 1086 Fromhart St.
This year’s honoree is Randy Lefko, the longtime sports editor of Clay Today. Edward and Annie Lee Keyes Foundation for Life, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of underprivileged youth, is organizing the event.
