Wendell Davis was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame for University of Florida’s College of Health and Human Performance on Friday, April 11. Family members were on hand to support him.
Davis graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1964 and, after serving in the Army, earned his master’s in 1967. His coaching career spanned over 20 years of success at several Florida high schools. After stints at Gardner Webb College and The Citadel, Wendell returned home to Clay County.
After retiring from coaching, Davis chose a career in real estate. Ultimately, peers voted him to be the inaugural president of Northeast Florida Association of Realtors.
Davis served in many community organizations or committees through the years. A partial list: Church Administrative Board and Lay leader, March of Dimes Board, Clay County Transit, Clay County Transportation, Clay Utility Board, County Commissioner, Past President Chamber of Commerce, Alive Credit Union and was appointed by two governors to St. Johns State College Board of Directors.
Davis and wife Jackie, who raised three children together, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
