ORANGE PARK – Joseph Lunsford not only took a big step to getting back on the road with a valid driver’s license, he saved $233 in the process.

Lunsford took advantage of Operation Green Light from the Clay County Clerk’s Office last Saturday in a one-day offer to settle outstanding debt with a possible reduction of interest and late fees.

Clay County drivers who’ve had licenses suspended for outstanding court costs were able to pay those obligations in full or set up a payment plan. For one day only, the benefits including the reduction or removal of extra fees which had accrued.

Tracie McRae, Chief Deputy Clerk of Operations, and Stephanie Wright, Compliance Supervisor at the Clay County Clerk’s Office, were on hand with other clerk’s office employees to help guide residents through the process.

Lunsford was eager to take advantage of the one-day offer.

“I think they’re doing a good thing here with this Operation Green Light by discounting or eliminating fees,” he said. “I think it’s a big help to some people, like me, for one. It saved me $233 today.”

Lunsford found out about Operation Green Light last year, and said he waited a whole year for it to come back around. His license had been suspended for five years.

“I’m glad they did this,” said Jonathan Green, another driver who took advantage of the program’s offer. “I’m glad they helped. They helped a lot of people out.”

“I’ve got it started,” he said when asked if he got everything taken care of. Green was excited about getting eventually getting things taken care of. “I’m on my way. I ain’t had a license in about 15 years, 16 years,” Green said.
