FLEMING ISLAND – A tragic accident on the golf course left a Fleming Island man suffering life threatening injuries.
Thomas Weber, 60, a member at Eagle Harbor County Club, was injured last Saturday afternoon after he fell from a golf cart as it rounded a curve. Weber was ejected and sustained critical injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center.
The cart was being driven by Thomas Occhiogrosso, 58, of Fleming Island.
Occhiogrosso also is a member at the golf club.
“He was a very regular member and a great guy,” said Marshall Collins, the head golf professional. “He won the member/guest shootout in May. I’ve been around golf a long time and I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Blair Hampton, a manager at Talons golf course restaurant, interacted regularly with Weber. Hampton says she saw Weber nearly every Sunday.
“He would come in, play golf with friends, and watch football. He’s just a good guy,” Hampton said.
