How many times have you heard someone say, “Give me what I deserve.” It makes me think of the adage “Be careful what you ask for because you may get it.”
The last thing most of us should be asking for is to be given what we deserve.
The Bible says that sin deserves death and it also says we are sinners. (Romans 6:23 and 3:23)
Mercy is the gift that we have not earned and therefore do not deserve. God has shown mercy to all of us by enacting a perfect plan for our redemption from sin.
Mercy is not what we should expect. Sin is blight on the soul and on all humanity. But God has shown us mercy even in our sins,
According to the Word of God, we all were guilty and dead in trespasses and sins. “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.” (Eph. 2:4-5)
God’s mercy! What a great gift our Father gives us in His mercy and grace.
Mercy is “compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender.” It also means “a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion.” These dictionary definitions only come close to expressing all that mercy is to the redeemed child of God. Our experience of God’s mercy surpasses any attempt to define this great declaration of God’s personal love to us.
Favor undeserved and unearned is showered on us because of the wonderful mercy of God.
Jesus spoke about the man who cried out in prayer, “God have mercy on me for I am a sinner.” We should praise the Lord that He shows His love to us by His mercy. He has freely given us a Savior. Because He loves us, He shows us His mercy every day.
“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 89:1)
