PENNEY FARMS – The Golden Rule Picnic is held in Kemmerer, Wyoming, home of the Golden Rule Store, the first J.C. Penney Department Store. The Golden Rule based on Matthew 7:12 in the Bible was a guiding principle in the life of J.C. Penney throughout his life.
At Penney Farms, residents want to commemorate the same values with its Golden Rule Social: "Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Undo You."
On Thursday, May 11, residents will meet at Kohler Park next to Penney Farms Town Hall, 4100 Clark Ave., at 7 p.m.
The event will feature a presentation from John Bowles, who will play Penney with Steve Griffith on guitar.
After dinner, everyone is encouraged to bring a dessert and one to share. In addition, ice cream will be available in compliments of the Historical Society of Penney Farms as well as period costumes and a balloon arch for photo ops with Penney.
The Penney Farms Historical Museum will be open for tours and in the event of rain, the event will be held in the museum.
All are welcome to this free event. Donations are welcome to support the Historical Society, a volunteer organization of friendly folks who love local history.
