GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The first 10 items on the agenda for the Green Cove Springs City Council were easily approved, and the final item was withdrawn for a relatively smooth meeting Tuesday night.
Among the items approved were:
• The council was unanimous in to push along an amendment to change zoning for 22 parcels on Bonaventure and Idlewild avenues.
• Advanced its discussion with the Clay County School Board to buy the fire station at 25 Roderigo Ave. City manager Steve Kennedy asked the council to allow him to gather all pertinent documents to the issue for presentation during the March 24 meeting. Representatives from the county school board will also be invited to that meeting to present their plans for the use of the property.
• The council also approved Chief Derek Asdot’s request to attend the 2020 Summer Florida FBINAA Annual Conference in Jacksonville from June 28-July 1; Sgt. Chris Hess’s request to attend the Glock Armorer's Course at Daytona Beach Police Department on March 30-31; the ratification of the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Cost Share grant application for financial support of Phase II of the expansion of the Harbor Road Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility; the approval to piggyback on Sarasota County School Board’s Bid Contract to replace the gym floor at ASACC/Hogan Gym for the amount not to exceed $105,088.20 from Southeastern Surfaces & Equipment; the approval to surplus the "triple-wide" mobile home that was used as the breakroom, conference room and administrative offices for the Public Works Department. There will be a ribbon-cutting for a new Public Works building on March 17; and, the execution of a task order for work related to Chapman Substation Upgrades.
