Gerelene Maynard Skeens

Gerelene Maynard Skeens 83, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023. She was born in Heisey, Kentucky to parents Alexander and Florence Jude Maynard. She later married the love of her life and husband of 65 years, John Skeens, and together they shared six children. She dedicated her life to loving and taking care of her kids and family. Gerelene and John shared many joys in life together. When the kids were younger, they enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing baseball in the yard. In more recent years the two of them loved to watch old westerns, boxing and most any type of sports. She was also very proud of her glass doll collection, which had been passed down from other family members. Gerelene was very passionate about gardening; she truly loved her flowers and taking care of them. She also enjoyed gardening other fruits and vegetables, which she would often cook for the family at one of her large family dinners that she loved to have. Gerelene’s large family gave her many years of joy and she will be dearly missed by the ones she loved the most.

Gerelene was preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Florence Jude Maynard; sons, Dennis Keith Skeens, Jeffrey Skeens, and Michael Van Skeens; brother, Cletus Maynard; and 3 of her sisters.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John D.; son, Johnny Mack Skeens (Dawn); daughters, Tami Lutz and Sharon Mitcheson (Bob); sisters, Glenna Wilson and Bonnie Jude; Twenty-five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services were at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, in the Little Ruth Church Cemetery, (1046 Little Ruth Rd, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043)
