GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The City Council approved a 4.7 millage rate Tuesday night for the next fiscal year that will generate $3.3 million in revenues, a 14.85% increase from last year’s rolled-back rate of 4.1275.

In doing so, the city’s fiscal year 2023-24 budget will be $15,899,291, with the largest expenses being $4.7 million for the police department and $3.9 million for public works.

A millage rate is the amount assessed for each $1,000 of value for non-exempt real property.

The new budget goes into effect on Oct. 1.

The council approved a five-year capital improvement program from 2024 to 2028 in other businesses. The total cost of the plan will be $21,487,293.

The city spent months identifying long-term needs and revenue sources. The plan will address the Augusta Savage Arts and Community Center, information technology, parks, code enforcement, public works, equipment maintenance, police, electric, water, solid waste, stormwater and wastewater.
