Green Cove Springs exploring wage study to keep, attract top employees


GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The city council heard a prolonged presentation and discussion of the recently completed Wage Study for employees of the city during its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The goal in assessing the wages of city employees was to find a fiscally responsible way to retain tenured employees and attract new ones with pay comparable to other similarly sized cities in the area. Evergreen Solutions conducted the study and recommended the council approve a step plan that would overall city wages. The council agreed, 5-0.

In other business, the Green Cove Springs City Council approved the first reading of resolutions that would adopt the tentative millage rate for next year at 3.8 mils; an operating budget of $44,940,317; and, a capital improvement plan of $18,665,075.

The final readings will be at the next meeting on Sept. 29.

The final public hearing item was a request to the council to approve the Community Development Block Grant application. Mike Daniels briefed the council on prospective projects for the city. The projects were: stormwater improvement; sidewalks between Idlewild Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; and, improvements to Spring Park. The motion passed 5-0.

The council also reviewed proposed site plan changes at the Augusta Savage Arts and Community Center as part of the CARES Act projects. Some of the proposed changes include a circular driveway for the food pantry, as well as a cover for it, and to use some of the community center classrooms into extra storage for the food bank.

The motion was passed, 5-0.
