OHS Coffey adds two fumble pickups

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville Sharks' quarterback Tyler Huff had a little help en route to a 65-33 playoff implication upset win against the Atlantic Division leading Quad City Steamrollers on Saturday. Defensive back Richard Coffey picked up two fumbles to set up scores for the Sharks. Huff had seven touchdowns: three passes, four on the run, for 190 yards rushing.

Coffey, a Baldwin High football graduate, but also a former Oakleaf High football and track star, recently signed with the Sharks to bolster a defense that gave up 75 points two games ago in a game that Huff had control of despite the Sharks' 75-43 loss to the Green Bay Blizzard.
Huff, who has been with the Sharks since signing May 20, has wins of 46-40 (second half installed May 24) and 54-48 over two time defending Indoor Football League champion Arizona Rattlers (June 7) with the Sharks with Huff, despite four scores (2 touchdown passes, 2 runs) losing 43-29 to the Massachusetts Pirates (May 29) with Massachusetts scoring 22 second quarter points, and the Blizzard on June 13 (75-43) despite impressive numbers by Huff; 127 passing no touchdows; 3 rush scores with Green Bay quarterback Maxwell Meylor hitting five touchdown passes.
For the Quad City game, Coffey, at free safety, picked up his first fumble late in the first quarter that led to a Huff pass in the end zone to wide out Jaedon Stoshak who leaped, caught Huff's pass then toppled over the end zone barrier on to a VIP table filled with drinks and wings. For Huff, the acrobatic catch was his second strike of the quick first quarter, with Karon Ashley finishing off a 12-yard pass, diving into the end zone.
Quad City scored on their next possession to put the game at 14-10, but Huff barreled left and pummeled a Quad City tackler at the goal line to score the game 21-10.
A second fumble recovery by Coffey got Huff the ball near midfield, where wide out Marcus Rogers caught a pass on the right side of the field, zig-zagged to the left side and gave the Sharks a first down at the Quad City five. Huff burrowed under his offensive line to score the game 28-10 by halftime.
Huff hit one more score to Stoshak and ran for three more scores to the final whistle.
The win puts the Sharks, now 8-4 with Quad City falling to 9-3, in position to take the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, as Green Bay lost a 57-56 game to 2-9 Fisher Freight. Both teams also sit at 8-4. Green Bay still has games with Arizona and Quad City while the Sharks travel to Iowa Barnstormers (1-9), then return home for the San Antonio Gunslingers (3-8), then on the road to Tulsa Oilers (7-5) and a final home game against Green Bay.
