Joanne Ruth Hardin, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2024, at the age of 96, surrounded by loving family. She was born on July 15, 1927, to Clem and Bertha Brown in Lancaster, Ohio. She later moved to Columbus, Ohio where she met her future husband, Dr. Thomas Hardin. The couple lived in Columbus and Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Orange Park in 1960.

Joanne was devoted to her family and her church. She spent much time volunteering with St. Catherine’s Catholic Church when it was still on River Road. She played the organ in the old church and taught religious education classes as her children were growing up.

She is predeceased by her parents, 7 siblings and her husband of 64 years, Dr. Thomas Hardin, a son, Daniel Hardin, a daughter, Susan Lewis and granddaughter-in-law Jessica Cheek. She is survived by her sons, Dr Michael Hardin (Cecily), and Dr. Mark Hardin, and daughter Rebecca O’Neill (Joey) as well as 8 grandchildren; Melissa White (Andy), Neil Hardin (Caitlin,) Emily Hardin (Matt), Cecil Thomas, Kael Farber, Amy and Eric Cheek, Lyndsi Pratt (Jeff) and 8 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church 1649 Kingsley Avenue Orange Park, FL 32073 at 1 pm on April 1st. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
