GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The City of Green Cove Springs kicks off its 34th Annual Memorial Day RiverFest in Spring Park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
Memorial Day RiverFest has become a tradition with local veterans and families throughout Northeast Florida. The City began the festival every year with an Opening Ceremony where an average of 150 veterans from Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are recognized, both individually and by their military branch.
The highlight of the ceremony is a flyover by the Green Cove Springs-based Dreamland Squadron to recognize all military that died in combat. An Old Glory presentation, wreath-laying, bell ringing and the playing of “Taps” will be an addition to this year’s ceremony.
Military vehicle and memorabilia displays provided by the Camp Blanding Museum and MVPA will be open all day in Spring Park for attendees to get a glimpse of military history.
For families, RiverFest is a celebration of Summer as Spring Park comes alive with the sounds and sights of the season. Parents can enjoy the lineup of an average of 20 local food trucks and 75 craft vendors that line the park, while children can enjoy the Kids Zone with horse rides and more.
City’s rubber duck race and watermelon eating contest in the afternoon are classic summer fun for the whole family. Live entertainment provided by Evans Media Source packs the afternoon with a variety of music and dance performances, with Remedy Tree, Kendall Tucker and Bedrock headlining in the evening. RiverFest’s annual highlights include free entry into the City’s spring-fed public pool and fireworks show over the St. Johns River by North Florida Pyrotechnics to end the day.
