JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's track team opened up the East Coast Relays at the University of North Florida Friday evening as the Moccasins competed in both the 1,500m and 5,000m. Junior Emma Mussante posted the eighth fastest time in program history in the 5,000m to lead the way.
Mussante is a graduate of Middleburg High School.
Mussante, a junior, led the way Friday night as she competed in the 5,000m invite which featured the top competitors in the event. The Middleburg, Fla. native took 11th overall while completing the distance in 17:37.80. The time ranked third on the season and eighth all-time for the FSC program.
Senior Ellie Fluman led a group of six Moccasins in the 1,500m as she ran her season-best time in the event at 4:51.72, a time which ranks fourth best this season for FSC. Fluman took 32nd overall. Freshman Emma Nales-Torchio was the next FSC runner to cross the finish as she took 47th overall with the eighth-best time this season.
Also on the track action, Keystone Heights High graduate Alex Guy, a graduate student at Florida Southern, finished 18th in the 800 meters with a 1:55.18 split. Guy also was 16th in the 1500 in 3:55.10.
From Fleming Island, Lauren Schaudel, a freshman at Daytona State College, finished 15th in the 1500 in 5:02.51.
In the elite 5,000 meters, Fleming Island High's Kameron Wallizada, running for the University of North Florida, finished third in 14:20.01. Also in the open 5,000, Clay High graduate Carlton Waiguru, a sophomore for UNF, was 10th in 15:37.09.
