KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Keystone Heights RV Resort continues to expand.

The resort is planning to add 292 rental spots for recreational vehicles, giving it a total of 705 spaces.

Ken Loyd, the general manager, said he saw the resort growing, but was not expecting it to grow as fast as it has. The resort is waiting on the building permit to start the expansion.

“It’s ready to go. They gave us the verbal, but not the written,” Loyd said.

He also said before expansion can start, they had to obtain a permit to resolve some wetland mitigation issues. The expansion is set to be completed between January and February.

The resort’s expansion will not only expand the resort, but it will also bring more business to the area.

“It will add to what we have already done,” Loyd said.

He said since the resort’s opening, restaurants, groceries, golf courses and local businesses have seen an increase in business.

However, the additional RV spots are not the only thing the resort is planning to build. As of now, the resort is building a second bathhouse for its residents. In addition, they are planning to build a new gas station northwest of the resort on State Road 100 toward Starke and will have enough room for boats, RVs and fifth wheels to pull through. The resort plans to see the gas station in fruition in a year or two.

Despite the obstacles Keystone Heights RV Resort faced in the beginning, the residents living at the resort love it.

“I love it here. Everyone is sweet. It’s gated. I feel safe,” Katelyn, a resident said.

Another resident, Thersa, says that the RV resort is fantastic.

“It’s an active adult community. Everyone is active. You can find a common attraction despite the age difference,” she said.
