NEPTUNE BEACH - After a somewhat disastrous loss to Bolles a week ago, Oakleaf High got the offensive spark back on their sideline with a handful of scoring highlights en route to a 38-9 district win over Fletcher High last Friday at Fletcher High School.

"It's why we play programs like Bolles to prepare us mentally and physically to compete in the playoffs," said Oakleaf coach Chris Foy, who got the Knights to the region 1-6A final last year. "This week, we grow, recover and increase in intelligence."

With Bolles shackling the Oakleaf offense to just six points in a 38-6 non district loss last week, the Knights blew apart the Fletcher defense with their long ball firepower as Jordin Price, Fareed Coleman and Trace Burney all scored on big play balls, displaying the anticipated weaponry under quarterback Jack McKissock's direction.

After a first score by C.J. Moses from a six-yard scoring pass after a Rodney Townsend interception, Oakleaf answered a long drive to a field goal by Fletcher with Coleman blasting from 50 yards out to score the game 14-3. On the next series, Price hauled in a 70-yard McKissock pass for a third score to 21-3 to the half.

In the second half, wide receiver Michael Conner snared an 11-yard scoring pass to 28-3 with Oakleaf getting a field goal to 31-3 into the fourth quarter.
Burney shredded the Fletcher secondary for an 87-yard scoring bomb to 38-3 with Fletcher scoring with two minutes left in the game to 38-9.
Oakleaf will have a BYE week after their tortuous schedule but will return with a much improved First Coast team, followed by ED White, Mandarin and Tocoi Creek to finish the season.

District 2-6A
Oakleaf (5-1, 1-0)
Mandarin (5-1, 1-0)
First Coast (3-2, 0-1)
Fletcher (4-2, 0-1)

Mandarin defeated First Coast 34-13 on Friday with ED White (4-1) losing their first of the year in an offensive shootout 52-49 to Merritt Island (4-2). The Mustangs' lone loss is to former nationally ranked No. 1 IMG Academy 57-7.

Currently, IMG (5-0) is ranked fourth in the U.S.

Mandarin, ranked 24th in Florida, will have 4A-Rockledge and Fletcher before hosting Oakleaf on October 24 in what could be a rematch of last year's district championship game won by the Mustangs.

ED White featured former Trinity Christian Academy quarterback King Boylston who passed for three scores and ran for one against Merritt Island. ED White has game scores of 65-0 and 74-0 on their slate in wins over Westside and Englewood with a 45-28 season opening win over Trinity Christian.

Clay wins first; Keystone Heights shut out

Clay High first year head coach Jeff Gierke finally got the elusive first win of the season with a 27-13 win over Ridgeview in a district 3-4A contest at Clay High. Ridgeview had a 7-0 lead through most of the game before Clay scored late in the third quarter then got an onsides kick for a second score and a 14-7 lead. A strip sack fumble and a Landon Martin touchdown pass got the game to 21-7 as the third quarter ended.

Clay continues with a district play with the undefeated St. Augustine (6-0, 41-21 win over Columbia) after a BYE week and Columbia (5-1) on Oct. 24. Fernandina Beach comes to Clay on October 17 with a road game to Orange Park ending the season. St. Augustine is ranked 22nd in Florida and fifth in 4A. Columbia is seventh in 4A.

At Keystone Heights, the Indians unfortunate season got worse as Bradford County scored a 53-0 district win. Bradford County (4-1) is ranked fourth in Class 4A. Keystone Heights has a road game at West Nassau on Oct. 3. The Warriors are 6-1 with a 32-21 win over Fernandina Beach last week.

The Warriors are ranked fifth in the Sunshine State Conference Florida Atlantic District. Ridgeview falls to 1-4 with KIPP Bold City on Oct. 3 then Columbia. The Panthers lone win last year was against KIPP.
