Carol Ruth (Hodges) Yearwood

Carol Ruth (Hodges) Yearwood, 81, of Orange Park, passed away on May 17, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on September 12, 1939 to the late Earl Franklin and Ruth Marie (Hoelzen) Hodges in Deadwood, South Dakota.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Sioux Falls in 1961. She taught secondary education with the Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland for five years. Then she attended law school at the University of Louisville and received her Juris Doctrine law degree in 1977. She had a private law practice for a few years.
She and her family moved to Orange Park, FL from Louisville, KY when her husband, David M. Yearwood, Sr, was transferred to CSX Railroad Company in 1981.She was employed with the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families in 1990 and continued for 20 years until her retirement in 2010.
She was a member and a deacon of the Island View Baptist Church since 1982. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, enjoying tea and book reading. She enjoyed the company of her pets including Doc Peebles Yearwood and Mr. Scobee Yearwood.
Mrs. Yearwood is survived by her son, David M. (Gladys) Yearwood, Jr., of Orange Park, FL; her sister, Mary Susan (Sherwood) Boxer of Germantown, MD; her niece, Amanda (Robert) Hoffmaster of Olney, MD; and her great nieces, Olivia, Aubrey, and Madison Hoffmaster of Olney, MD. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Yearwood, Sr., in 1991 and her sister, Linda Kaye Hodges, in 2013.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Springs Church Campus 17 Fellowship Hall, 900 Park Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073.
Service at 11:00 a.m. on May 21, 2022 officiated by Dr. Shaun Miles.
Her burial service will be planned at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at the later date in 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carol Ruth Hodges Yearwood may be given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org) or The Springs Church, 900 Park Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073.
