ORANGE PARK – To help the environment and support schools and food banks, the Lions Club is collecting and weighing plastic grocery bags. Bags will be photographed, and the information will be turned over to Nex Trex before being dropped off at local Winn-Dixies recycling bins.
The Lions Club hopes to collect a half-ton of bags this year. Nex Trex pays for bags to keep them out of landfills. Many of the bags are repurposed into benches and given to schools and food banks. The Orange Park club passed the 100-pound mark in January.
