Panthers Goforth stamps his ticket; Laycock one away

GREEN COVE SPRINGS - Ridgeview High's Raymond Goforth lasted to the third round with Middleburg's Tucker Cody, the region champion at 215, then won a 9-2 consolation semifinal to beat the "Blood Round" to get his ticket to the FHSAA state championships in Orlando on Friday and Saturday.
Goforth, 38-9, got to the third round of his third-place match before falling to New Smyrna Beach's Kyle Nillson to finish fourth, but the ticket was punched.
Ridgeview had a handful of "just misses" with Roman Ortez (35-12) forfeiting out of the 125 consolation semifinal; Preston Lewis (34-18) getting to the consolation quarters at 157, James Laycock (43-16) losing his consolation semifinal at 175, 285 Braylon Hawkins (22-17) losing his consolation quarter.
Hutchinson (36-12) went 1-2 at 190 with Danz (14-27) going 0-2 at 113.
Orange Park had just five athletes; Joseph Sneed at 106 finished 2-2; Elijah Grant at 120 went 1-2, Jonathan Garland at 126 went 2-2, Joseph Ellis at 138 went 2-2 and Justin Garay at 144 went 1-2.
