Phillis Mendoza, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023 at her home. She is survived by her husband Joseph Daniel Bozeman “Dan”, their children, Timothy S. Scheetz, James N. Scheetz & wife Jennifer, daughter, Kimberly Martin, & numerous grandchildren, & siblings. Phillis was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Wade & husband Keith, brother David, & sisters, Theresa & Christina.

Phillis was born on April 30, 1948, to parents Benjamin & Andelisia Mendoza. She was the oldest of nine children. Her life started in Cheyenne, WY & ended in Florida. She made homes in many other places along the way, including Hawaii, Washington D.C., South Carolina, Virginia, and Italy.

Phillis started her 40-year Federal Career as a fingerprint technician with J Edgar Hoover’s FBI & advanced to several managerial positions in the U.S. Navy Security and intelligence Communities.

Phillis is someone who will not be easily forgotten. She lived her life to the fullest & was an inspiration to those who she was close to. She taught her family how to be strong & in times of adversity would say, “this too shall pass.”

She died as she lived, Fearless!

To honor Phillis’ memory, the family is holding a celebration of life on Saturday, October 14th from 11am to 2pm at Club Continental, 2143 Astor St, Orange Park, FL 32073

The family invites those who knew Phillis to attend & celebrate her life. They ask attendees to wear bright colors & dress Florida casual.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or to the Salvation Army.
