Former Clay man charged with abusing ‘incapacitated’ woman
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A man was returned to Clay County from a Northwest Florida jail on Friday, May 23, to face charges that he committed sexual battery on a physically incapacitated person at least six times.
Mark Howard Myers, 55, of Green Cove Springs, was in the Clay County Jail with a $1,500,018 bond after being charged with six counts of sexual battery. He was arrested in Santa Rosa County on May 10 for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and returned by the Green Cove Springs Police Department.
According to information filed with the Circuit Court of the Fourth Judicial District, Myers is accused of abusing a female victim between March 4, 2024, and April 17, 2024. Information on the abuse was redacted to protect the identity of the victim.
Myers’ next court appearance is scheduled for June 23.
CCSO arrests man accused of shooting at Oakleaf home
OAKLEAF – A Jacksonville man was charged with firing approximately 13 shots into a home on Saturday, May 24, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Corey Jakai Brunson, 22, was charged with shooting into a dwelling and vehicle after he was arrested at his residence and transported to the Clay County Jail, where he will be held with a $250,003 bond until his next court appearance on June 23.
According to the affidavit for arrest report, investigators found damage to “eight or nine” areas of the front of a house on Club Lake Drive and four more bullet holes in a car. They also found 9mm shell casings in the front yard.
Keystone Heights man charged with setting series of fires
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies ran down a 29-year-old man suspected of starting several small fires on Saturday, May 24, finally wrestling him to the ground after he tried to shield himself behind a woman pushing a stroller.
According to the arrest report, Arik Levi Anthony Bach was charged with malicious land burning and resisting arrest after several witnesses reported seeing him start fires around the downtown area.
A deputy saw him on a bicycle and when he tried to stop him, he fled on foot. During the chase, Bach “attempted to hide behind a female pushing a stroller with two small children in it.” He was eventually subdued and placed in custody.
According to the arrest report, at least five grass, brush and shrubbery fires were extinguished.
His bond is $55,004.
Man accused of throwing burning paper through woman’s window
MIDDLEBURG – A 63-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, May 25, after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office suspected him of lighting a piece of paper and throwing it through a bedroom window of a woman’s home.
Shaka Bambi Shabba was charged with aggravated assault with an intent to commit a felony and attempted arson after a woman said she feared violence was imminent.
Deputies said they found a lighter in Shabba’s pocket, burned marks on her window, burned paper outside her window, on the windowsill and a T-shirt.
Shabba’s bond is $75,006.
