Sheriff’s Office investigating Middleburg shooting death
MIDDLEBURG – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a man in Middleburg.

According to a CCSO release:
“The other involved parties all remained on scene and cooperated with the responding deputies. Investigation into the incident, which included statements from the involved parties and video surveillance, revealed the deceased male traveled to this location to confront the other involved parties. During the confrontation, the deceased male pointed a gun at the other involved parties during which time he was shot by one of the persons present. The involved parties attempted to render aid to the male while calling 911, however, the male succumbed to his injuries.”
Man arrested following
shoplifting spree at Orange Park Mall
ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville man was arrested following a shoplifting spree at the Orange Park Mall.
Torrey Laval Turner, 33, was charged with two counts of felony shoplifting and one count of petit shoplifting after he was caught leaving Dillard’s on Jan. 12 with $537 of unpaid clothes.
Once in custody, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Turner also was charged with two unrelated shoplifting cases from November.
According to the arrest report, a loss prevention officer at the mall recognized Turner since he was arrested for shoplifting at Sears in 2019 and with grand theft in 2018. He followed Turner and saw him leave JCPenney with a bag of $467 of unpaid merchandise on Nov. 4.
He also was found with stolen merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
His next court appearance is Feb. 14. Until then, he has been in the Clay County Jail with a $55,009 bond.
Man in pajama bottoms charged with trafficking
methamphetamine
ORANGE PARK – A man wanted for a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Kingsley Avenue and Blanding Boulevard on Jan. 13 was found with 25.4 grams of methamphetamine in his pockets.
Christopher Glenn Enloe, 46, of Middleburg, was charged with trafficking of the drug after deputies found him ducked behind another car in the parking lot of the Pine Tree Plaza.
According to the arrest report, witnesses said a man ran from the scene of the accident while wearing pajama bottoms. Once he was located, deputies found the methamphetamine wrapped in a plastic bag during his pat-down.
Since there were more than 14 grams, charges were escalated from possession to trafficking.
His bond was set t $150,003.
Man with taser charged with fighting with sheriff deputies
LAKE ASBURY – A man was arrested for fighting with an elderly woman and two Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Jan. 14.
Aaron Fitzgerald Weaver Jr., 30, of Lake Asbury, was charged with battery on a person 65 or older, resisting a law enforcement officer with violence, simple battery, battery on a law enforcement office and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after deputies were called to a home off Hensley Road to investigate a reported assault. They found an elderly woman walking away from a house. When they entered the home, Weaver got face-to-face with one of the deputies and started yelling. Another deputy noticed an object in Weaver’s waistband, so he was wrestled to the ground, according to the arrest report. He continued to fight with deputies until he was subdued. The object turned out to be a taser.
Weaver’s bond was set at $100,012.
Intoxicated man caught shooting sawed-off shotgun at hotel
ORANGE PARK – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 30-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated while he was firing a sawed-off shotgun near the InTown Suites on Blanding Boulevard on Jan. 11.
Dylan Milton Jarvis, who was living at the extended-stay hotel, was charged with possession of a short-barreled gun, disorderly intoxication and consumption of alcohol within 300 feet of a package store after deputies were called after other residents heard at least five shots. When deputies arrived, witnesses said Jarvis walked behind a nearby gas station with the gun. When they approached him, he threw the weapon into the bushes at Phenix Salon, according to the arrest report.
When they approached Jarvis, deputies said he appeared intoxicated. They said Jarvis admitted shooting the gun into the ground, but not at anyone.
The shotgun barrel was measured at 15 inches, CCSO said.
Jarvis’ bond was set at $26,005.
