Man jailed after child has signs of beatings, strangulation, sexual assault

ORANGE PARK – A Green Cove Springs man was arrested Sunday after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he tried to choke and sexually batter a girl younger than 18.

Odilon Campos Reyes, 42, also was charged with aggravated assault and keeping the girl from calling the police.

According to the arrest report, deputies found the child with red marks on her face and neck, as well as recent cuts to her lip, bruises on her shoulder and large clumps of missing hair.

The victim was transported to a sexual assault advocate, while Reyes was taken to jail. His bond was set at $350,012.

Man busted for DUI after driving 5 mph in Green Cove Springs

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A man driving 5 mph at 3 a.m. Aug. 2 was stopped and arrested with a blood alcohol level of more than twice the state’s legal limit, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Brandon Shawn McKinney, 23, of Green Cove Springs, was charged with driving under the influence with a passenger younger than 18.

According to the arrest report, McKinney made a tight u-turn at on Bradley Creek Boulevard at Rolling View Boulevard and continued for nearly 600 feet at 5 mph. He eventually stopped at the Rolling Hills Amenity Center where deputies said they smelled alcohol on his breath and the noticed his speech was slurred and his eyes were watery and bloodshot.

His blood alcohol level was measured at .213 and .201. The maximum legal level is .08.

The child was released to the custody of his parents.

Passed out woman at Sonic Drive-In charged with meth, DUI

FLEMING ISLAND – A woman was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of methamphetamine after she passed out at the drive-thru window of a fast food restaurant.

Kassidy R. Sabourin, 20, of Fleming Island, was asleep at the Sonic Drive-In, 1801 Town Center Blvd. on July 31. Deputies said she struggled to stay upright. She eventually failed a field sobriety test.

Sabourin also was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies file public nuisance charges against man running drug house

MIDDLEBURG – Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies put Howard Wayne Haddock, 55, in jail July 31 for creating a public nuisance by selling drugs from his house.

According to the arrest report, confidential sources made at least two drug buys totaling 7.2 grams of methamphetamine at 2305 Cosmos Ave. in Middleburg.

Haddock’s next court appearance is Aug. 28. Until then, he will remain in the county jail without bond.

CCSO arrest man for drinking beer at Middleburg convenience store

MIDDLEBURG – A Jacksonville man was arrested last Saturday for drinking beer at a local convenience store.

George Brenton Schafferman, 44, was charged with violation of a county ordinance against drinking alcohol within 300 feet of a business after deputies found him sitting against the wall of the Circle K at 4486 County Road 218 and drinking a 16-ounce beer.

Deputies found three cold, unopened cans of beer next to him. Before going to jail, Schafferman also was given a no-trespass warning from the store.
