FLEMING ISLAND — Tuesday marked a day of celebration for Carrie Preshia as she rang in 100 years of life.
The special '"luau themed" birthday gathering, held at PruittHealth-Fleming Island, welcomed an exuberant group of fellow friends and staff to help Preshia commemorate the big milestone. Additionally, several family members traveled from near and far to join in on the occasion, taking the time to bask in their memories of the person they called their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and best friend.
Donning their birthday hats, guests enjoyed snacks, drinks and sweet treats. Fellow partygoers also wore colorful Hawaiin leis, perfect for Preshia's love of bright colors.
Preshia moved to Jacksonville in 1960 and was a Duval County school teacher for 35 years. Preshia raised five children, and has eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preshia's last living child was also there to celebrate, Shiela Kerr.
