KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Residents were thrilled by the improvements made at Keystone Beach and Lake Geneva during last weekend’s MotoSurf Games.

“It’s beautiful, they did a really nice job.” Kristen, a mother of four, said. She also said they were new to the area, but really like the park and the area.

“Really love the area. It’s cute, quaint and family-friendly, I really like that,” she said. Another local, Jamie, likes the new renovation the city has done to the beach. “They cleared out the beach,” he said. “They did a lot.”

Besides the beach being cleaned, some of the renovations the city did involve the pavilion, restrooms and the stage.

Another local, Bruce Gibbs says that the city did a good job in remodeling the park and that it was the first time he had seen it since its renovation.

“I think it’s very nice,” Jackie, a visitor, said the remodeled park is beautiful.

In addition, locals are planning to visit the park more often than before.

Jack Murray, a local resident, said he and his wife didn’t come to the park often, but now they will. The city spent two months and nearly $1 million overhauling the community hub for the Lake Region. Money came from a variety of grants, including Capital Improvement Projects.

“We’ll start coming down here. They really did a good job,” Kim, a longtime local, says she plans to come back. “It has encouraged me to participate more.”

As locals come to Keystone Beach to watch the MotoSurf Games, some hope that the next step of action will be restoring the other lakes in the area.

“I think it’s great. It’s bringing a lot of people in.” Jack said. He also said hopefully it will encourage action to be taken towards restoring other lakes, particularly Lake Brooklyn. Gibbs said the lakes are coming back thanks to the Black Creek Water Project which should return and restore the lakes to water levels of years past.
