ORLANDO - Embry-Riddle Athletics saw two of its Eagles pick up weekly hardware on Monday as junior Lauryn Mateo (Women's Soccer) was named Offensive Player of the Week and Ashlyn Koerner (volleyball) was tabbed Setter of the Week by the Sunshine State Conference on Monday.
Mateo and Koerner are the third and fourth members of the Blue and Gold to win an SSC weekly award this fall.
Embry-Riddle is currently 3-0-4 with a season opening week of Sept. 5-7 with a 2-1 win over No. 2 Columbus State and a 2-2 tie with No. 7 West Florida.
Against Columbus State, Embry-Riddle found the back of the net just 94 seconds into their season through Ida Zetterberg. After intercepting a back pass, Zetterberg rounded the CSU goalkeeper and tapped into an empty net.
Soon after, the Eagles found the back of the net again. Lauryn Mateo headed in a cross from Olivia Gallo off a freekick, taking a two-goal lead within the first five minutes.
Seven of Lauryn Mateo's 15 career goals have now been game-winning goals.
Against West Florida, Mateo hit an assist for the Eagles second goal of the game.
Mateo continued her hot start to the season by recording two goals and an assist in the first week of conference play.
She scored or assisted on every ERAU goal this week during their 2-0 win at Tampa and 1-1 draw versus Florida Tech. The junior scored the opening goal against the Spartans, and put the Eagles in front against the Panthers on Saturday evening.
The Orange Park native tallied five points from two goals and one assist, while adding six shots, four shots on goal and a game-winning goal throughout this past week. Embry-Riddle is currently tied for first place in the SSC with Mateo also leading the team in goals (3), assists (2), shots (13), shots on goal (7) and game-winners (2) for the season.
Mateo and Embry-Riddle were at Flagler College on Wednesday, Oct. 8 for a 7 p.m. game. It was the second weekly award of Koerner's career (Oct. 28, 2024), and she's just the fourth Eagle in program history to win Setter of the Week on multiple occasions.
