Fri. Sept. 24
Gas up the car and head to Green Cove Springs for Oakleaf and the Blue Devils; Kennard and Garis. This was a rugged game last year and should be even better this year. Knights’ quarterback Drew Ammon will have been tested with Columbia and Camden County and may be primed for a prime time outing in the middle of Blue Devil country. Would be a big-time win. Clay has points to prove from last year, but with a new quarterback at the helm, tight games may fall to rookie aspirations. Q Ray will be pivotal in battle of trenches with D. Outlaw.
Orange Park at Matanzas is a second in a row quality opponent for Raiders.
Ridgeview and Fleming Island is resiliency test for both sides; has Arnette weathered the season opening and has Springs found a quarterback. Fleming Island has upper hand with Singleton able to control games from backfield. Look for Hunter Williams
to run amuck in Panther backfield.
Keystone Heights and Interlachen (5-5) should be good game with Indians ground and pound smashing first three opponents. With the Four Horsemen running roughsod; Jenkins, Hollingsworth, Sanders and Williams.
St. Johns goes to Trenton to take on 11-1 Riverside Christian. Bantag will need his power football scheme to work.
Oakleaf (2-2) at Clay (3-1) Oakleaf bounced 50-6 by Camden County (GA), rough trip to Peach State. Clay 34-0 over Ridgeview, sloppy but Q-less Blue Devils still rugged. Frazier, Lee back-to-back highlight shakes last week. Oakleaf lost two RBs in past weeks. Had Columbia on the ropes in big game two weeks ago. Got to hold the line. Ammons to Bradshaw legit scoring threat anywhere on field. Murray second most dangerous guy on the field.
Middleburg BYE
Fleming Island (1-3) at Ridgeview (1-2) Fleming Island loses tough 17-14 to Fletcher with injury-hampered lineup; Ridgeview got some real deal football vs. Clay. Panthers need a lucky break here and there. Kids resiliency tested; Fleming Island playing young guys due to upperclass injuries; Ridgeview needs to shore up mistakes and miscues. Singleton and Jhace could have big numbers.
Orange Park (1-3) at Matanzas (1-3) Orange Park, beat by Lee Riverside whatever 41-6, also could use a W. Raiders have to hang tough after rough few games; talent is there. Restall, Carter, Wilkerson need breakout games. Raiders air game; Chambers, Green, Carter very dangerous; just need football in hands. Matanzas thumped 57-16 last week vs. Gainesville.
Interlachen (0-3) at Keystone Heights (4-0) Indians rugged ground is carrying the torch for Dickinson; Key on Sanders, Hollingsworth, Williams and Jenkins next up for big game. Kids have to stay humble. Interlachen dangerous rivalry team. Upset could be in Ram mind. Rams have a good run/pass QB.
SJCDS (0-5) at Riverside (Trenton)(1-2) Spartans need a good game; points on the board. Lost 44-14 to Florida Deaf. Riverside lost 28-18 to Shorecrest Prep. SJCDS: Owen Johnston 137 Yds rushing, Shane Reaves 97 Yds passing, Andrew Staten 4 passes caught.
