CLAY COUNTY—Although Florida isn't the best judge of Fall weather, fashion is still a huge part of the anticipated season.
Changing trends always produce new and sometimes revive old, statement clothing and sought-after pieces, especially for women.
"When it comes to fashion, it's the same thing every year. The 90s are really big, so you'll see trends from the nineties that are back, but they've been tweaked a little bit," said Erica Burks, owner of Lux Upscale Resale Boutique on Fleming Island.
As local clothing shops prepare for the influx of warm, comfy attire, here's the scoop on what they say 'fashionistas' can look forward to this season.
1. Jeans, jeans ... and more jeans
While Fall is known as the time for leggings, blue denim and light-colored jeans are coming back in style. Stephanie Male, the owner of Rustic Rose Boutique on Fleming Island, said her shop is known for its variety of Judy Blue Jeans. The boutique even has the largest selection in the county.
"Jeans are hot," Male said. "I mean, they're always hot, but they are really hot this Fall."
Kristina Humphrey, co-owner of 5th and Paisley Boutique in Green Cove Springs said that although she is not a huge fan of barrel denim, she sees a lot of it this season.
"It's an odd style, but it's so trendy right now," she said.
2. Simple bows and stylish hats
Regular hair ties are out, but stylish bows are in. Whether it's tied or just a simple graphic, both Humphrey and Male said they are also seeing a lot of this. And according to these fashion experts, you could never go wrong with a hat. Rustic Rose even has a custom hat bar.
3. Animal print
Cheetahs, zebras, leopards...oh my! Rebecca Barfield, owner of Be Bella Boutique in Orange Park, said you can never go wrong with this style, and it remains timeless. As a consignment shop, her consigners are bringing loads of these patterns in for sale.
4. Leather
Whether leather boots, jackets, belts or handbags, these fashion experts say, it is quite the commodity. Burks, who knows the latest on handbag culture, said leather is something every woman needs to invest in.
"You know how some people love the smell of gasoline or grass. No, I love the smell of fresh leather," she said. "And, you get that smell with boots and with purses or belts."
Other helpful tips:
Talitha Chestnut, owner of House of Dazzle Boutique in Orange Park, said to remember that summer clothing can always be repurposed for Fall. Easily tucking a light sweater or long-sleeve shirt under a stylish summer jumpsuit, for example, is a way to gain a unique, seasonal look.
"This would be something that you can wear without the blouse, but then you can bring it into other seasons by adding a blouse underneath a jumpsuit," Chestnut said. "Or, if you have a dress with straps, add a cute little sweater."
Joyce Hall, owner of The Hall Closet Consignment in Orange Park, said having a cardigan on hand is imperative.
These fashionable pieces are easy to top off every outfit. They also work with just about everything and never go out of style.
"You can use those with any sleeveless outfit or short sleeves," she said. "You can always wear a good cardigan or a little jacket."
From Rustic Rose's Thursday Facebook live sales to dressing on a budget with local consignments, these stores have great options for all demographics if you're looking to jazz up your style this season. Happy shopping!
