CLAY COUNTY – The holiday shopping rush is over. And whether you let your fingers do the shopping online or you shopped stores, the pandemic did little to slow down purchases during the holiday season.
Google compiled a list of the top gifts purchased in 2020 every year, broken down into categories like cooking, fitness and more, and there’s a good chance a gift you gave or received is on that list. Here are the top gifts purchased in 2020:

Cooking
Cooking gifts are great for that friend or that family member that prefers to spend their time in front of a stove instead of in front of a television. Baking gifts were up 34% this year while cotton candy makers were up 42%, but no gift topped the number one cooking-related gift this year: the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker. This item is exactly what it says it is – an iced coffee maker – and it cost around $50, on average.
The $180 Ninja Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven, the $160 Breville Nespresso Essenza Mini Coffee Maker and the $400 KitchenAid Pro 5 Bowl-Life Stand Mixer round out the rest of the top four gifts purchased online this year.

Athletics
Search interest for exercise equipment jumped up 116% this year compared to 2019 – and much of that is attributed to quarantines brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sportswear to match the exercise equipment saw its Google searches jump up 23% this year and oddly enough, the number one athletic gift purchased this year was a pair of outdoors boots, specifically the North Face Women’s Yukiona Mid Boots, which are sold out and are going for as much as $950 on eBay.
The $200 Fitbit Versa 3 comes in second place while the North Face Women’s Shellista III Mid Boots, which will run you roughly $140 came in third. The 5th Element Grid Snowboard 2020 for $150 rounds out the top four and it’s safe to say this gift was likely not purchased much in Florida, unless someone wanted to ride a snowboard down a sand dune at their favorite beach.

Technology
If any single genre of gifts pulled humanity through 2020, it’s technology. Everyone became Zoom meeting pros this year and learned just how good they are at using a computer in the process. Streaming-related purchases were up 33% while camera-related purchased were at an all-time high in Google searches. The number one technological gift purchased this year was the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080, which is a graphics card designed to push your computer’s visual capability to the limits and sold out meaning a second-hand buy will run you more than $1,000.
Apple had a great year too with its new $500 Apple Watch Series 6. It was followed by the Apple iPhone 12, which will run you more than $1,000. This is especially impressive for Apple since both the Series 6 watch and the iPhone 12 were released in November. Google’s own phone, it’s new Google Pixel 5, was the fourth most purchased piece of technology in 2020 at its standard price of $700.

Gaming
Gaming is the most lucrative entertainment medium in the world. It makes more money than movies and television, and its rise only continued in 2020 as people who don’t game suddenly found themselves looking for some kind of interaction while stuck inside all day. Video games were there for them.
The No. 1 gaming gift of the year was Sony’s PlayStation 5, a console released in November for $500 that essentially is impossible to currently find on store shelves or online. Second place goes to Sony’s competitor, Microsoft, and its own $500 gaming box, the Xbox Series X. Third place goes to the less expensive variant of the Series X, the Xbox Series S, which runs for $300 and, like the PlayStation 5 and Series X, is impossible to find in stores or online. Virtual reality machine Oculus Quest 2, which has a $400 price tag, was the fourth most purchased gaming item purchased on Google this year.

Children
Many parents found themselves stuck at home trying to balance work with taking care of their children – all while ensuring their children got their education. Board game purchases were up 14% this year and puzzles were up 25%.
The top-related item purchased this year on Google was the CoComelon Musical Bedtime JJ Doll, which cost parents roughly $45. It’s a somewhat terrifying baby doll that sings and talks to children and totally isn’t creepy at all. The sold-out Squishmallow 16-inch Gordon Shark came in second, which probably has something to do with the Baby Shark song, and the Pokemon: Hatterene V Champion’s Path box set of cards, which runs for $25, was the third most-purchased children’s item on Google. The $8 Chuckle and Roar Pop It children’s game was the fourth most purchased children’s item this year.
