GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Pastor John Sanders had splatters of concrete on his sweatshirt Thursday morning as workers poured fresh concrete for the floor of the Vineyard Transitional Center, marking another significant step in the project that will offer a second chance for newly released inmates from the Clay County Jail.
The center will provide rooms for as many as 16 men as they gain job skills and placement training, as well as life skills training while they transition back into society, to reduce the chance of recidivism.
The nonprofit group has collected enough donations to pay for concrete blocks to build the walls and the floor, but now they need donors to help pay for 152 sheets of plywood ($15 a sheet) and 52 squares of shingles, Sanders said. If you’re interested in donating, visit vtcclay.org.
