Walter Fleming Jarvis, Sr.

Walter Fleming Jarvis, Sr. passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024.  He was Born on June 24, 1938, in Tampa, Florida. Walter spent most of his life in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida, with two years spent in the Panama Canal Zone. Walter attended Robert E. Lee High School, graduating in 1956, and Jacksonville University until 1960.

  Walter is survived by his wife, Tobi; children Walter F. (Bill) Jarvis Jr.; Grace E. (Beth) Delapena (Enrique); Deirdre E. (Dee) Jarvis; Jodi C. Martin; Kenneth Hardy Jarvis (Annette); Jennifer E. Meadows (John); John C. Jarvis; and Matthew T. Jarvis; sister Judy Gavilan (Danny); 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; nephews and nieces.

  Walter was predeceased by his parents, James H.II and Grace E. Jarvis; his brothers James H. (Jimmy) Jarvis III; and Jonathan W. Jarvis (Debby), and by his son David L. Jarvis.

  Walter loved his family, his church, music, sports, scouting, and his military service. He was a member of the Florida Army National Guard for 36 years, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major with the 146th Signal Battalion. While serving, he received many awards, decorations, and commendations.  He worked for the City of Jacksonville as an engineer for 37 years. After retiring, he worked with Black and Veatch Engineers for 5 years. He served as Scoutmaster for Troop 217 for many years.

  Walter never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He had a generous heart and spirit. He will be forever in our hearts.

  Funeral services will be Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 461 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073, with burial at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073.
