The month of December is packed with local events, giveaways and meet and greets sure to get anyone in the Christmas spirit. Here are a few: 

  • The Historic Houses Christmas Tour will be on Dec. 6 from 12-4 p.m. before the annual Christmas parade. This event is hosted by the Green Cove Springs Preservation Society and is a self-guided tour through historic locations throughout the city, including decorated churches, restored homes and local stores. Tickets are $5 a person. The event is free for those 13 and younger. Maps and passes are available at the Village Improvement Association, 17 N. Palmetto Ave. 
  • Big Cabin Holiday Open House will be on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Camp Chowenwaw, 1517 Ball Road. This event is hosted by Clay County Parks and Recreation and is a kickoff to the holiday season with festive crafts and decorations. Registration for free family Christmas photos is currently filled, however if you are interested, the county encourages stopping by as cancellations are possible.
  • The Green Cove Springs Christmas on Walnut Parade will be on Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The parade will begin on Orange Avenue and Lamont Street, head south, turn around at Walnut Street and head back north. You should plan to park by 4 p.m. to ensure a good spot.
  • Christmas in the Village will be at the Clay County Fairgrounds Early Florida Village, 2493 SR 16, on Dec. 12 and 19 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The inaugural event will include cookies, crafts, hot cocoa, live music, animals and a holiday movie. The move will begin at 8:30 p.m.
  •  There will be multiple Christmas parades and light shows on Dec. 13. The Middleburg Christmas Parade and Festival will be from 2-6 p.m. at Clay County Adventure Park, 3829 Sergeant Bradley Crose Road. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oakleaf's Christmas Parade and Vendor Village will begin at 4 p.m. with the parade starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade with travel from Phase 2  Amenities Center at 845 Oakleaf Plantation Pkwy. to Oakleaf High. The Whitey's Fish Camp Boat Parade, 2032 County Road 220, will begin at 6 p.m. Kiwanis Christmas Parade and Parade of Trees in Keystone Heights will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 
  • Santa Claus will be in town this year, making in appearance on Fleming Island on Dec. 13, as well as the Christmas in the Village at the fairgrounds on Dec. on Dec. 12 from 4-10 p.m., which includes the movie "The Grinch Stole Christmas."
  • The 44th Annual J.P. Hall Children's Christmas Party will be from 9 a.m.-noon at the fairgrounds. Toys will be given away at the drive-thru event, as well as bicycles on a first come first served basis. Anyone in line by noon will be served.
  • Hometown Holiday in the Park will be on Dec. 12-13 from 5-9 p.m. at Clarke House Park, 1039 Kingsley Ave. in Orange Park. Enjoy a shopping village, hayrides through a decorated trail of lights, live entertainment, Clarke House tours and photos with Santa.
