GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A woman suspected of trying to load money into a cash app with two counterfeit $20 bills and then eluding police following a chase was caught nine hours later by the Green Cove Springs Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Office, after it was looking for a woman running in her underwear.
Emily Ann Moran, 27, of Palatka, was charged with passing counterfeit bills, shoplifting and fleeing from law enforcement with lights and siren active after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a woman who matched the description of someone who eluded police earlier in the day.
According to the arrest report, Moran paid a Walgreen’s cashier $50 to load money into her CashApp account. She paid with two phony $20 bills and five legitimate $1 bills. The cashier realized the $20s were counterfeit and called for a manager. Moran quickly left the store.
Video surveillance verified the transaction and recorded her two-door hatchback and the New Jersey license tag. A license plate reader alerted the Green Cove Springs Police Department the car was in Green Cove Springs on Orange Avenue at Harbor Road. Following a high-speed chase with speeds surpassing 100 mph that included Moran running on the shoulder and sidewalks in downtown Green Cove Springs. After nearly ramming several cars, GCSPD broke off the chase but kept her car in sight.
The car was in a wooded area at the end of Hall Road. An officer saw Moran run through a backyard. A woman at the house said a woman took off her clothes and was running in her bra and underwear. GCSPD found her driver’s license and a bag filled with ecstasy pills on the ground and her social security card in her discarded pants. She was caught shortly after that.
Moran’s bond was set at $30,005.
