Zino, Rozier nab All State nods

FLEMING ISLAND - Fleming Island High senior athlete Hope Rozier, who has enjoyed a stellar career as a basketball and flag football stalwart for her four years, got a final accolade in being named a first team Class 2A defender for flag football in a recent Florida Athletic Coaches Association list.

For Clay High, junior quarterback Ciara Zino pushed the Lady Blue Devils into their second straight Class 1A Final Four game and a third straight district title to get a first team Class 1A offensive choice as an athlete due to her ability to get out of the pocket and run, while also being a stealthy safety on defense for coach John Stilianou.

The rest of the first teams for Class 2A; offense and defense, were chosen from southern Florida with Rozier choice the solo north Florida athlete.

State Champion Alonso High put four athletes on the first teams with runnerup Park Vista landing two athletes. The only other athlete not from south Florida was Wekiva senior wide receiver Sedhejia Payne. Fleming Island defeated Wekiva in the region semifinals.

In Class 1A, five time champion Tampa Robinson dominated the first team lists with five athletes; three on offense. Robinson defeated Clay in their state semifinal. Runnerup Dillard had just one athlete on the first teams.

From north Florida, Tallahassee schools Rickards, Godby, Florida High and Lincoln had athletes populating the first teams with Zino the lone athlete from northeast Florida.

In Class 1A, Clay landed Alexis Stilianou on the second team defense, defensive back Jenna Hill on the third team defense and speedy wideout Skye Paradise as an honorable mention choice.

For the rest of Class 2A, Fleming Island senior defensive back Aubrey Burke, also a multiple sport athlete for the Golden Eagles, was named to the second team defense. Sophomore linebacker Amelia Sailing was named honorable mention for Fleming Island.
