CLAY COUNTY - Although Earth Day was officially recognized on Monday, April 22, Clay County banded together to clean up 15 sites and provide ecology education programs two days earlier as part of the Keep Clay Beautiful, Water Clean Up and EcoFest projects. Residents spent the day walking trails and exploring exhibits at Camp Chowenwaw, and they were provided up-close education on the wonderous nature benefits of Black Creek and the St. Johns River. Across the county, 150 volunteers contributed 255 hours to collect 14,731 pounds of trash locations like Spring Park, Black Creek Trail, Fleming Island Library, High Ridge Estates in Keystone Heights, Keystone Boat Ramp, Ronnie Van Zant Park, Russell Road, Main Street in Middleburg, County Road 218, Penney Farms, Middleburg High, Oakleaf Community Park, Wells Road, John E. Hayes Memorial Park and Governors Boat Ramp.
