Clay County Chamber, Defense Acquisition Professionals to award scholarships

CLAY COUNTY – The Clay County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Defense Acquisition Professionals Alumni Association Jacksonville Chapter and will be awarding multiple $1,000 scholarships to local Clay County High seniors.
In addition, through the Clay Education Foundation's partnership with FL Prepaid, matching dollar scholarships are available for Clay students for two-year or four-year college/vocational certifications or four-year university scholarships (60-120 credit hours) at discounted rates.
There are several types of scholarships: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and either Math, Medical or Manufacturing), Business and Leadership, Patriot (parents/guardians are active-duty military: Department of Defense or Florida National Guard) serving in the Northeast Florida area, and Thomas University from Thomasville, Georgia, which is a $3,000 credit toward tuition. For additional details you can go to www.dapaajax.org, select scholarship link, read about the scholarship areas, download the application, select the scholarship area, complete it and submit.
What is needed to apply: high school transcripts, ACT or SAT scores, Community Service Letters and a 250-word essay of what the scholarship would mean to you. Deadline to submit is May 22. The scholarship team will meet to determine the winners from 31 May through 10 June. Winners will be notified and once they complete the student voucher a check will be sent to the winner’s college of choice.
Also, there will be a night out with the Clay County Chamber and DAP AA Jax Chapter on Saturday night 11 where dinner, a Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp baseball game and fireworks will be provided to the winners and the sponsors by the Chamber and DAPAA.

All donations come with a receipt and a W-9. There are also additional benefits based on the sponsor level selected.

FLEMING ISLAND – Fleming Island High NJROTC Cadet Gabriela Feliciano recently each a Department of Florida American Legion Cadet of The Year scholarship.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Joshua Watkins of Fleming Island and Alexis Nagle of Green Cove Springs was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Watkins attends Florida State; Nagle goes to Florida Institute of Technology.
They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership.
