OAKLEAF - After a season of watching teams score the likes of 49, 45, 55 and 49 points last year, Oakleaf High first-year football coach Chris Foy had a crisp smile knowing his defense against Sandalwood and Baldwin in two half-only preseason scrimmages netted two shutouts and two stanzas with no first downs by opposing offenses.

"We didn't give up a first down in both halves," said Foy, with a 10-0 score versus Sandalwood; 14-0 vs. Baldwin. "J.J. Marsh-Mensie, my linebackers; Neal Whyte and Dajon Brown absolutely controlled the line of scrimmage."

On his offense, Foy, who got over 200 yards on the ground, got exceptional play from youth Michael Conner, a freshman, who caught a 67-yard scoring bomb, and Jordin Pryce, a sophomore, both pass receivers while junior running back Chris Foy II hit for more than 100 yards behind his massive offensive line. Dajon Brown scored off a 30-yard scamper as well.

"Those big guys up front; Quory Ambrose, Chase Johnson and Akeem Neal were moving people," said Foy, noting Sandalwood had two upfront defenders that had numerous NCAA offers. "Brandon (Wallace, Jr., QB) played really well and made good choices. We did have some ball security issues that we will address."

On defense, in the secondary, with James Kitchen and Bryson Kitt roaming the field, Foy commented that both teams completed just one pass. Kamari Davis did intercept one pass.

"They were locked down all night, make some good knockdowns," said Foy. "The defense up front; with Biggie in shape, was a force to contend with for both offenses."

For Foy, Wallace is the go-to guy for Foy on offense.

"We will live and die by him," said Foy. "He's the leader. We had a conditioning and film session on Saturday and the team was all in. We're in a good direction."
