Raiders forget second half

ST. JOHNS - The Orange Park Raiders went into halftime leading the Panthers at Nease Stadium, which included an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gabe Taylor, 14-13. The Raiders could not find any answers to the Panther offense as Nease kept the Raider offense off the field they went on to notch two third-quarter touchdowns with the Raiders second half shut out, 27-14.

“We’re just not a disciplined football team right now and it’s just killing us,” said Raiders Head Coach Marcus Wimberly. “We have our moments when we do things right and we can be pretty explosive on both sides of the ball. But, it has to come together, especially on defense.”

Nease continued to nibble away on offense throughout the second half, chewing up the clock using everything they found in the first half to hurt the Raiders. In the end, the Panthers amassed 421 total offensive yards on the Raiders. Nease quarterback Bryce Frick racked up 239 yards in the air against the Raider defensive backs. “All season long we haven’t been able to get off the field,” said Wimberly. “I told them before that last series (of downs) the offense only ran 34 plays. You can’t win like that. We have the type of offense that can score points, but we need the ball.”

Post-game, Wimberly had some tough talk for his players and what they need to do to turn the season around and get back into the playoff race before it is too late. “Tough love. If you’re a senior and you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do, we have to put somebody else in that will. We have to have discipline. You can not win football games without discipline. Do your job, especially on defense.“
