FLEMING ISLAND - Fleming Island High will host one of the more unique wrestling region duals night with four Clay County teams to battle amongst themselves for a shot at a Class 2A title in Kissimmee next week.

Middleburg and Fleming Island, both crowned district duals championships last week, will play host to runnerups in their respective duals tournaments; Oakleaf and Clay, in a gathering of area athletes to be debuted on Thursday starting at 6 p.m.

Fleming Island will host Oakleaf in one of the two region matches with Clay and Middleburg battling in the second match.

Fleming Island defeated Clay 68-3 in the district 4-2A championships while Middleburg beat Oakleaf 34-29 in the district 3-2A championship match.

Winners of each match will face off on the same night to earn a ticket to the FHSAA Duals Championship weekend, Fri.-Sat., Jan. 20-21, at Osceola High School in Kissimmee. Winners on Thursday will face on Fri, Jan. 20 at Osceola for a region title then advance to the state semifinal on Sat., Jan. 21 in the morning session with the championship matches to be hosted in the afternoon.

In 2022, Fleming Island trounced their way to the state Semifinals with Tampa Jesuit beating the Golden Eagles in the Final Four. Jesuit would lose to repeat state champion Lake Gibson.

Clay, in Class 1A in 2022, followed the same path as Fleming Island with overwhelming wins to the state semifinal, including a 49-15 win over Wakulla before losing to eventual champion Lake Highland Prep 64-6 in the state semifinal. Lake Highland Prep beat Cardinal Gibbons 72-0 in the championship match.

Middleburg’s travel included wins over Ponte Vedra and Ridgeview to the final while Oakleaf defeated Westside and Ed White. Ridgeview was the third county team in the district 3-2A lineup with a win over Ed White and Terry Parker with a 65-12 loss to Middleburg.

In the opposite side of the region bracket, hosted by Lincoln, Fort Walton Beach will face Lincoln while Chiles will face Gulf Breeze.

In district 4-1A, Keystone Heights finished tied for fifth with Interlachen.
