Pedal to the metal: OPPD bike training course

ORANGE PARK—Last week, Orange Park Police Department instructors held a four-day bike patrol training course following the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association's curriculum.

During the class, OPPD worked with officers from the Atlantic Beach Police Department and deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to learn proper bicycle cadence, bicycle safety, bicycle maintenance, and how to encounter subjects safely and showed proficiency in many slow-moving drills that will assist them in crowds and similar tight conditions they will encounter on patrol.

Officers logged more than 80 road miles during the four-day class and added nearly 10 additional miles while practicing and showing proficiency in their drills. This is one of the more physically challenging law enforcement courses, and OPPD proudly announced every participant passed.
