• The Clay County District Schools reported it needs $4 million for new Chromebooks and Wi-Fi networks for students after 2,400 weren’t returned from the previous school year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Paul and Jacque Supinsky provide foster care to four boys and two girls ranging from ages 4 to 14.

• The Orange Park Medical Center, now known as HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, announces it will hire 80 nurses in the next four months.

10 years ago, 2015

• A Department of Children and Families investigation determined BASCA Inc. officials mishandled violent outbursts by some of the residents at one of its group homes, prompting the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to close one of the four homes.

• Motorola wins the bid to provide a new public safety radio system after the county commission decided to disqualify the other two bidders.

• Medicare Care Choices Model will expand to Community Hospice and Haven Hospice in Clay County.

20 years ago, 2005

• Murphco of Florida announces its plan to build a new Holiday Inn on Wells Road next to its current location for about $10-$12 million.

• The BCC approved the Clay County District Schools' request to set impact fees for new residents at $7,034 for single-family homes, $3,236 for multi-family homes and $5,79 for a mobile home.

• Benjamin Crowe, 63, of Orange Park, was killed when his Ford ran through a median and into the opposite lane on Wells Road.

30 years ago, 1995

• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Floyd Wright, 26, of Jacksonville, and Ricky Thomas Oliver, 29, on the Blockbuster Video roof at 30 Blanding Blvd. after a silent alarm alerted them of a likely break-in.

• Four Maxville residents were arrested for growing marijuana on their property after a Florida Department of Law Enforcement flyover spotted more than 130 plants from above.

• Ken Smallwood, president of SDI Realty Group, assured Orange Park officials that Moosehaven’s plans to build 90 homes at Gano and DeBarry avenues will include a solid land-use plan.

40 years ago, 1985

• Green Cove Springs officials announced that Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club should be under construction soon. Plans all for a 400-acre golf course designed by Mark McCumber and 550 homes.

• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office upgraded aggravated assault charges for Thomas Francis Tate, 33 of Jacksonville, to murder for the shooting death of Arlene Coburn, 31, of Orange Park.

• The FBI arrested Dr. David Turner, 59, on conspiring to sell sample drugs to others that he received for free.
